Why Intelligent Pressure Management is the Solution
Installation of smart pressure controls on networks supporting biomethane entry could enable constrained plants to inject an extra 6.0GWh of energy, enough for 500 households.

Increase biomethane injection into constrained networks

Prioritise biomethane feed-in over natural gas

Reduce operational costs through remote pressure control

Improve utilisation of existing network assets

Reduce curtailment and flaring of renewable gas

Benefits of UtonomyOne for Biomethane Injection
Increase output potential of biomethane plant
Typically, biomethane plants are connected to medium pressure networks and governors are set manually, normally twice a year, in winter and summer. The biomethane plant injects gas into the medium pressure network at a fixed rate that can’t be changed at short notice.
The natural gas governors are set conservatively high to ensure security of supply under all conditions including the possibility of the biomethane plant going off-line. When demand is low, for example on a warm day or at night, the high pressure setpoint results in the network being flooded with natural gas.
Our Solution
Our Hardware
Utonomy’s regulator station hardware equipment, Ucontrol and Uconnect, communicates securely with remote control and monitoring applications running in Ucloud, the system’s cloud platform.

Our Software
Remote pressure control
The UtonomyOne Connected Pressure Control solution builds on the functionality of the Stand-alone system by adding secure connectivity to pressure control devices, and full remote control and monitoring from a centralised multi-user data platform. Multiple communication device options are available to meet individual site requirements such as the availability of space and power, protection from weather or flooding, and proximity to hazardous zones. In addition to pressure control, the data platform supports role-based management functions including device maintenance, data querying and extraction, report generation and integration with wider information systems.
